Bahraini envoy invited to UK Parliament
Bahrain’s Ambassador to the UK Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa attended a dinner on the invitation by Sir Alan Duncan, Chairman of the Conservative Middle East Council (CMEC), Director Leo Docherty, along with eight other Conservative MPs who include Charlotte Leslie, Helen Whately, Kwasi Kwarteng, Johnny Mercer, Jack Lopressti, and Dr Philip Lee. The dinner was held at the Houses of Parliament.
Sir Alan welcomed Shaikh Fawaz and congratulated him on his induction by Queen Elizabeth II as the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Court of St James.
He expressed his appreciation and admiration for the manner in which Shaikh Fawaz had assumed his ambassadorial role, and specifically praised the number of initiatives he was involved in. He also praised the extent to which Shaikh Fawaz had engaged with both the diplomatic and civic communities in London since taking up his post and added that CMEC looked forward to further cooperation and dialogue with the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The ambassador thanked CMEC members for the warm welcome they have shown him since his arrival in London and reminded of the long-standing robust relationship between the two Kingdoms.
On the sidelines of the dinner, Shaikh Fawaz was greeted by Tobias Ellwood, Undersecretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs as well as recently appointed Undersecretary for Transport, Andrew Jones.
Shaikh Fawaz commented on the constructive outcome on the recent vote in the House of Commons in favour of extending action against Daesh from Iraq to Syria.
After the Dinner, he presented CMEC with a commemorative Crest of the Bahraini Coat of Arms as a symbol of the friendship and appreciation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Conservative Middle East Council.
