Robber gang arrested in Bahrain
Manama : A gang of robbers has been arrested for stealing goods worth more than BD70,000 from several areas in the Kingdom.
The 14-member gang members, believed to be of Asian nationalities, sold liquor and were involved in flesh trade to cover up their robberies, according to the police.
The General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science confirmed that the gang was involved in six burglaries in different parts of Bahrain, all carried out in a well organised manner.
“Investigations revealed that the gang robbed precious items worth more than BD70,000. Its members were also involved in prostitution, liqour sale to cover-up their thefts,” the directorate said in a statement issued on Thursday.
“The investigation team probed the case carefully and monitored surveillance cameras footage from various locations, including Bahrain International Airport. This led to one member of the gang who was spotted stealing from a house and the robbery method was similar to the other unsolved cases, “ the directorate said in a statement.
According to the directorate, further investigations showed that “the gang used rented cars to do crimes and wrote in the leasing documents inaccurate addresses”.
“The suspects were identified when their home was located, raided and arrested after a warrant was issued by the Public Prosecution. Legal proceedings were taken and the case was referred to the Public Publication,” the directorate added in its statement.
