Court reduces prison terms in rioting case
Manama : The Supreme Appeals Court yesterday rejected the appeals of three persons convicted of injuring a police officer but reduced their jail terms from seven years behind bars to five years.
The trio is said to have been among 40 saboteurs who rioted in the village of Bild Al Qadeem.
They attacked police officers who arrived at the scene with firebombs and pelted them with iron rods, but were eventually dispersed.
The roads were blocked with stones and woods, and the victim began with his colleagues removing them to open it. However, one of the culprits pelted an iron rod at him.
The police officer was rushed to a hospital, where examinations revealed that his colon was cut because the rod penetrated his tummy.
Doctors operated him, while detectives launched investigations into the case and arrested 12 people who included the three appellants.
All the 12 accused were earlier convicted in connection with this case and received seven years jail each.
