Bahraini toddler dies in hospital

ManamaAnother Bahraini infant has died in a public hospital, the fifth case reported this year, prompting authorities to order an immediate probe into the incident.

Redha Qamar reportedly died while receiving treatment at Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) Accident and Emergency Department on Tuesday.

The one-year-old boy was earlier admitted to the hospital’s paediatric ward as his body temperature was not stable. According to reports, his condition deteriorated few days later and was referred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). He was announced dead later.

Minister of Health Faeqa Al Saleh has ordered an immediate probe into the child’s death.

The ministry said in a statement yesterday that the matter was referred to the concerned committee in SMC to stand on the details of the unfortunate incident.

“The Death and Complications Committee has been assigned to study the causes of the death and confirm if all the necessary medical procedures were
taken. The committee is formed of specialists and consultants in all medical fields,” the ministry’s statement read.

“Investigations revealed that all the necessary diagnostic and treatment procedures where taken. It also showed that the boy was taken to another healthcare institution before being brought to the SMC Accident and Emergency Department. His conditions was described as critical at the time of admission. He was admitted to the ICU for almost three weeks before succumbing to the disease on Tuesday morning,” the ministry explained, without mentioning what the boy’s disease was.
