Malaysia, Indonesia to stop turning away migrant boats

Malaysia and Indonesia said Wednesday they would scrap a policy of turning away boatpeople that triggered mounting international condemnation as a wave of starving migrants sought to reach their shores.

"The towing and the shooing (away of boats) is not going to happen," Malaysian Foreign Minister Anifah Aman said at a joint press conference with his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi after talks on the issue.
