UAE PM announces massive changes to government

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced massive changes to the federal government ministries during a ‘live’ conversation with his followers on Twitter.

According to WAM, through the hashtag #WorldGovSummit, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid expressed his vision for the next generation of government and announced major structural changes to the UAE federal government in preparation for the next stage of development in the UAE.

The UAE Prime Minister announced the list of changes in the government that includes, new cabinet portfolios for ‘happiness’ and ‘tolerance’, and merged and renamed portfolios for the likes of education and labour ministries.

New ministerial posts have reportedly been created with the objective of promoting happiness and tolerance in UAE society, such as Minister of State for Happiness, “whose primary mission is to harmonise all government plans, programs and policies to achieve a happier society.”

The Ministry of State for Tolerance was created to “promote tolerance as a fundamental value in UAE society.”  

The Ministries of Education and Higher Education has been merged into one, with an extended remit that includes having strategic oversight over nurseries and  postgraduate institutes.

The prime minister also announced that the Ministry of Labour will be renamed as the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and the National Development & Employment Authority (Tanmia) will be attached to a new ministry.

He also announced the transfer of climate change department to the Ministry of Environment and Water, and the renaming of the ministry to the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment.

Sheikh Mohammed also announced the creation of UAE Youth National Council, will would include “an elite group of young men and women to advise on youth affairs,” which is to be led by a 22-year old female minister.

“Change creates great opportunities and renews ideas and forces everyone to think in a different way. And we will implement all that is good for our people,” he said.
