Bank rejects loan for employee to celebrate Valentine’s Day

A probationary officer working with the State Bank of India in Gujarat faced disappointment when the bank turned down his application for loan to celebrate Valentine's Day.

According to The Times of India,  25-year-old Digvijay Singh had applied for a loan of Rs 42, 970 as festival advance.

However, the bank rejected his loan application saying that Valentine's Day is not valid festival to grant a loan.

"I did not apply for a loan to get publicity. I don't want to say anything on it,” Digvijay said reacting to the bank's decision.

Digvijay, who works  in a branch in Junagadh district of Gujarat, had earlier applied loan to celebrate Vasant Panchami, which was  was approved by the bank.

According to bank sources, the SBI offers a month’s gross salary in advance as an interest-free loan for festivals.

An employee can repay the loan in 10 installments.

Festivals such as Valentine's Day, Father's Day and Mother's Day are not included in the bank's list of festivals.
