Paris: Thousands of demonstrators are expected to assemble in Paris as high school students and labour unions ramp up their protests against France's education system and greater worries about school conditions.
The student-led movement has spread across the country, with students organizing blockades and demonstrations in hundreds of high schools. Protesters have expressed concern over overcrowded classrooms, teacher shortages, harsh workloads, and inadequate school infrastructure.
Unions have supported the demonstrations and advocated for increased government investment in education. Organizers estimate 20,000 to 40,000 people to attend the Paris gathering, making it one of the largest demonstrations since the protests started.
The movement has also resulted in disruptions and conflicts in some regions, necessitating a heavy police presence around schools and planned protest routes. Authorities have asked marchers to be calm.
The protests come as the French government faces increasing pressure to fulfil calls for better school facilities and more funding for students and staff.
