UK man accused of preparing drone factory sabotage 'for Russia'

London, United Kingdom: A 31-year-old British man appeared in a London court Thursday charged with preparing acts of sabotage against drone manufacturing facilities on behalf of Russian military intelligence. 

Joshua Cammidge, residing in Swindon, was remanded in custody following an investigation by counter-terrorism police.

Prosecutors allege Cammidge contacted an individual linked to the GRU Volunteer Corps, a group controlled by Russia's military intelligence agency. 

Between late March and early September, he shared Google Maps screenshots pinpointing the exact locations of a drone factory and four related production sites in Swindon.

According to charges filed under the UK’s National Security Act, Cammidge volunteered to carry out sabotage, conducted targeted reconnaissance, and researched Wi-Fi jamming devices. 

He offered no plea during the preliminary hearing and will remain detained pending a court date at London's Old Bailey on September 25.

The legal proceedings underscore deeply strained relations between Britain and Russia, long damaged by past intelligence scandals and London's ongoing military support for Ukraine. 

Meanwhile, Moscow's FSB security service claimed Thursday it detained an embassy guard over an alleged Ukrainian false-flag plot targeting Britain's ambassador.
