Thailand PM promises stricter gun laws after deadly school shooting

Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, the prime minister of Thailand, promised stricter gun control legislation following a school massacre in Bangkok that killed eight lives, including the juvenile culprit. The incident at the Debsirin Nonthaburi School in the province of Nonthaburi injured over twenty more people.
The 14 years old boy is accused of shooting staff members and other people at the school after killing his grandparents at their house. After shooting himself, he died away from his wounds. His grandfather owned the firearm that was used.
According to Anutin, the government plans to implement a new law that will strictly prohibit the carrying of handguns in public, with the exception of government employes who are on official business. The action was taken in response to fresh worries about Thailand's high rate of civilian gun ownership and frequent mass shootings.
Calls for stricter licensing regulations, mental health screenings, and more robust protections for lawfully possessed firearms have increased in response to the most recent incident.
