Buenos Aires: Diego Maradona's final months were marked by dramatic physical decline, with the football icon growing obese, immobile, and increasingly resigned to his fate, according to his former masseur.
The masseuse, who worked closely with Maradona in his final years, claimed the Argentine icon as physically and mentally ailing before his away in November 2020 at the age of 60.
His narrative paints a bleak picture of Maradona's final days, when the former World Cup winner was supposedly in poor condition and became increasingly reliant on people around him.
Maradona died of serious pulmonary oedema caused by heart failure at his home in Tigre, near Buenos Aires, shortly after receiving surgery for a brain blood clot. His death prompted an extensive investigation into the medical care he received in his final weeks.
