Oscar-Winning Musician Glen Hansard Dies in Motorcycle Crash at 56

Dublin: Glen Hansard, the Irish folk-rock musician, actor and Academy Award winner best known for the film Once and the band the Frames, has died aged 56 after a motorcycle crash near Dublin on Wednesday.

Hansard was involved in a motorcycle accident in Lucan, on the outskirts of Dublin, early Wednesday. Irish police said the rider was treated at the scene but died shortly afterwards. Authorities did not officially identify the victim.

Hansard rose to international fame through the 2007 musical film Once, in which he starred alongside Czech singer-songwriter Markéta Irglová. The pair won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for Falling Slowly, one of the film's most celebrated tracks. The film was later adapted into a successful stage musical in 2011.

He was also the frontman of Irish rock band The Frames, which released six studio albums, including the chart-topping Burn the Maps in 2004.

Known for his heartfelt songwriting and powerful live performances, Hansard built a career spanning music, film and theatre, earning acclaim both in Ireland and internationally. His death has prompted tributes from fans and fellow musicians across the world.
