NEW DELHI: New Delhi has lodged a strong diplomatic protest with Iran after a missile attack on two oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz left one Indian sailor dead.
The Ministry of External Affairs summoned Iran’s Deputy Chief of Mission to condemn the violence, which also injured six other Indian nationals on board the vessels.
The tankers, identified as MT Mombasa and MT Al Bahiyah, were struck while traversing the critical maritime trade route. Indian officials have expressed deep concern over the escalation, characterizing the targeting of commercial shipping as a violation of international law.
By formally registering its protest, India is demanding immediate accountability while stressing the urgent need for safe navigation in the region.
The incident underscores growing tensions in the Middle East, prompting India to call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and a return to diplomatic dialogue to ensure security for all involved.
