Tokyo: Japan has committed to enhance its efforts to fight foreign espionage, stating that the country must do more to detect and prevent intelligence activities by abroad operators in light of rising regional security concerns.
The government said that foreign intelligence agencies are increasingly targeting Japan's advanced technology, key infrastructure, and sensitive information. To defend national security, officials emphasised the importance of increased cooperation among law enforcement, intelligence agencies, and private companies.
The decision comes as Japan develops its defence capabilities and strengthens security relations with allies, amidst rising geopolitical tensions in East Asia. Authorities stated that enhancing counter-espionage measures is critical to protecting the country's economic and geopolitical interests.
