Qatar, Syria Strengthen Ties in Damascus Talks
MoU Signed on Diplomatic Training as Two Nations Deepen Bilateral Cooperation
Qatar's State Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi, met with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani in Damascus to discuss political, economic, and security cooperation.
The high-level meeting reviewed bilateral relations and explored ways to strengthen them across key sectors, addressing shared regional concerns.
A significant portion of the discussions focused on progress in Syria's chemical weapons file, reflecting the existing partnership between Doha and Damascus on the issue. Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to advancing cooperation with the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and fulfilling all related international obligations.
Dr. Al Khulaifi reiterated Qatar's full and unwavering support for Syria, underlining Doha's commitment to contributing to regional and international efforts aimed at realising the Syrian people's aspirations for development and stability.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two foreign ministries, focused on cooperation in diplomatic studies and training — a move seen as a step toward institutionalising the growing relationship between the two countries.
