Qatar hosts indirect US-Iran talks after ceasefire deal

Doha: Indirect negotiations between the United States and Iran started in Qatar on Wednesday, as both sides sought to build on a recent memorandum of understanding aimed at resolving months of Middle Eastern war. Qatari officials are mediating the talks, as both Washington and Tehran have ruled out direct, face-to-face negotiations.
The talks are centred on implementing the agreement, which includes restoring safe transportation through the Strait of Hormuz, releasing billions of dollars in frozen Iranian assets, and setting the framework for a larger peace pact. The United States has emphasised the importance of open marine traffic, while Iran is demanding progress on access to its limited cash.
While an Iranian team is meeting separate with the mediators, US envoys are consulting with Qatari authorities. Tehran has insisted that the purpose of its delegates' visit to Doha is not to hold direct talks with the United States, but rather to discuss the agreement's implementation and matters pertaining to frozen assets.
