Bangui: Three UN  peacekeepers were wounded after armed fighters launched a sudden dawn assault on a United Nations base in the Central African Republic. One of the blue helmets sustained serious injuries during the violent infiltration in the strategic frontier town of Am Dafock.

The joint cross-border raid was executed by elements of Sudan's Rapid Support Forces alongside former local Seleka rebels. Local officials confirmed that twenty-two people died during the clash, prompting urgent requests for military reinforcements.

Valentine Rugwabiza, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, strongly condemned the incident. She stated that targeted attacks against global peacekeepers may constitute war crimes under international law.

Following the initial ground assault, Russian military allies intervened by staging targeted air attacks against the rebel positions. Critically injured victims were quickly evacuated on specialized United Nations flights to receive medical treatment.

The strategic border town of Am Dafock faces regular incursions by armed groups operating on both sides. These clashes unfold against a backdrop marked by the persistent regional conflict in neighboring Sudan.
