Stade: A 45 years old man allegedly shot six employees at a mothers and children's shelter in Stade, northern Germany, during a custody dispute over his 3 months old daughter. Police said the suspect, who was there for a meeting to discuss future custody arrangements, opened fire inside the institution, killing four women and two men. A seventh person was injured and is in stable condition.

According to authorities, the suspect's infant daughter and her mother were present at the shelter during the incident but escaped unharmed. All of the victims are child welfare workers who worked at the facility, which cares for and helps mothers and children who are at threat. According to investigators, there was no political or ideological motivation behind the shooting; instead, it was a vicious attack resulting from a personal family conflict.

Following the shooting, a 65 years old woman who is thought to have close family relations drove the suspect away. After a brief chase, the car was caught by police, who opened fire to halt it before apprehending both of its occupants. Both the suspect and the driver are still being held while investigations are ongoing, according to officials.

The suspect had previously been reported to the police for making threats, but they didn't consider him to be particularly aggressive. Investigators attempt to ascertain how he got the weapon used in the attack since he did not have a firearms licence. While forensic teams investigate the location and collect evidence, authorities have ruled out any ongoing threat to the public.

Friedrich Merz, the chancellor of Germany, called the murders "deeply shocking" and stated that those committed to defending vulnerable families had perished in a senseless act of violence. In addition to offering condolences to the families of the victims, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier described the incident as particularly horrible because it took place in a location intended to offer security and safety.
