New York : Chinese businessman and self-exiled dissident Guo Wengui has been convicted in the United States on fraud, securities, wire fraud and money laundering charges.
US prosecutors said Guo, also known as Ho Wan Kwok and Miles Guo, used his online influence to persuade thousands of people to invest in his companies and projects, while using much of the money to fund his lavish lifestyle. He was arrested by the FBI in New York in March 2023.
Guo moved to the United States in 2015 after leaving China, where he faces financial fraud allegations that he denies. He later became a prominent critic of the Chinese government and co-founded the New Federal State of China with Steve Bannon. His former associate, Yvette Wang, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for her role in the fraud scheme.
