White House Ballroom Cost Reportedly Rises Above Trump's Estimate

Washington: The cost of President Donald Trump's planned White House ballroom has reportedly climbed far beyond the $400 million figure he has repeatedly cited, according to a report that has renewed scrutiny of the high-profile project.

The ballroom, a major part of Trump's effort to reshape the White House, is now estimated to cost around $600 million, with only part of the funding expected to come from private donors, according to documents cited by media reports.

Trump has consistently said the project would be funded by himself and other private donors, describing it as "taxpayer free." The White House maintains that Trump and private supporters are covering most of the cost, while arguing the ballroom is needed for security and large-scale presidential events.

Construction began after the historic East Wing was demolished last year. The administration says the project includes additional security features and infrastructure linked to presidential operations.

The development has drawn criticism from Democrats, who argue the costly renovation is out of touch with Americans facing economic pressures. The project has also faced legal challenges, with court proceedings continuing over aspects of the construction work.

The debate comes ahead of November's midterm elections, as Republicans seek to address voter concerns over rising living costs and the economic impact of the Middle East conflict.
