KATHMANDU: A veteran Nepali mountain guide, widely recognised by the nickname ‘Hillary,’ was found alive on the morning of June 4, six days after he went missing on Mount Everest.

The climber Dawa Sherpa, who is in his 50s and had been presumed dead by many in the mountaineering community, was successfully located and rescued, marking an extraordinary survival story on the world's highest peak.

Following his discovery, the guide was immediately airlifted from the mountain to Kathmandu for urgent medical care. His unexpected return has brought immense relief after a disappearance that sparked widespread concern for his life.

His survival is being hailed as a miracle, particularly given the brutal, oxygen-deprived conditions of the mountain's upper reaches where he had been lost. The resilience displayed during this grueling six-day ordeal highlights the extreme dangers faced by guides working on Everest.

As he undergoes further treatment in the hospital, authorities and the climbing community continue to celebrate his safe return from one of the most perilous environments on Earth.
