Trump claims US has total control over Strait of Hormuz
US President Donald Trump on Wednesday claimed that the United States has “total control” over the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, saying he believes Washington will maintain that control.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump described the US naval blockade as a “Wall of Steel” and said Iran was unable to challenge it. He also claimed that Iran’s military capabilities had been severely weakened and criticised the country’s economic situation.
The comments came amid continuing tensions surrounding the waterway, a crucial global energy route. Ship traffic through the Strait has fallen sharply during the ongoing crisis, with reports indicating that only a small number of vessels are currently making the crossing compared with normal levels.
Trump’s latest remarks come as efforts to revive an interim US-Iran peace agreement remain stalled, adding to uncertainty over the future of shipping through the Strait
