Bogotá : A Colombian judge has ordered presidential candidate Abelardo de la Espriella to publicly apologise within 48 hours after finding that comments he made during a radio interview were discriminatory and inappropriate toward a female journalist.

The controversy arose after De la Espriella claimed women voted for him because of his alleged virility and repeatedly urged a journalist to comment on a photo he showed during the interview. The judge said the remarks carried explicit sexual connotations and reinforced discriminatory stereotypes about women.

The journalist later said she felt harassed and disrespected by the incident.

De la Espriella subsequently apologised on social media but said his comments were intended as humour.
