TOKYO: Japan’s cabinet has approved a US$19 billion emergency extra budget to cushion the domestic economic impact of the war in Iran.
The emergency package, announced by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, is specifically designed to support households facing soaring utility bills. The government spokesperson confirmed that the additional funds will subsidize retail prices for petrol, electricity, and gas.
Domestic energy costs have remained heavily elevated following severe, ongoing disruptions across global oil markets. The government stated that this fiscal intervention is vital to ease cost pressures on essential public utilities and prevent widespread inflation from stalling the national economy.
By capping energy price hikes, the Takaichi administration aims to stabilize consumer spending and protect vulnerable families. The supplementary funding will be deployed immediately as Japan braces for continued geopolitical volatility in the Middle East.
