JAKARTA: A suspected World War II explosive device detonated in an Indonesian neighborhood, killing five people and leaving five others injured. The deadly explosion occurred unexpectedly when individuals interacted with the vintage ordnance, triggering a massive blast that damaged surrounding properties.

Authorities confirmed that five victims died at the scene from severe trauma caused by the blast wave and flying debris. Emergency medical teams rushed five survivors to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment, with several reported to be in critical condition.

Local police cordoned off the entire residential area immediately following the incident to ensure no secondary explosives remained hidden in the vicinity.

Preliminary investigations indicate the device was an unexploded relic left behind from historical military operations during World War II. Bomb disposal units were deployed to the site to clear remaining debris and verify that the area is entirely safe for returning residents.
