Israeli Strike Hits Beirut as Fighting in Lebanon Intensifies

Beirut: Israel carried out a strike on Beirut on Thursday for only the second time since a ceasefire with Hezbollah began last month, raising fears of a wider escalation in Lebanon.
The Israeli military said the attack targeted Hezbollah-linked infrastructure in Dahieh, a southern suburb of Beirut known as the group’s stronghold. Israeli media reported that the strike may have targeted a commander linked to an Iranian-backed militia.
The strike came as Israel intensified attacks across southern Lebanon following Hezbollah drone attacks on Israeli troops and northern Israeli communities.
Lebanese authorities said at least 11 people were killed in strikes around the southern city of Tyre, while rescue efforts continued in several affected areas.
Israel has ordered residents in large parts of southern Lebanon to evacuate, warning of further military action. Thousands of civilians have been displaced, with shelters in safer areas reaching capacity.
Both Israel and Hezbollah have accused each other of violating the ceasefire agreement that came into effect last month.
According to Lebanese officials, more than 3,300 people have been killed in Lebanon since the conflict began, while Israel says 27 people, including soldiers and civilians, have been killed on its side.
