Chile Police Arrest Three Suspects Linked to High-Profile Athlete Home Burglaries

Santiago: Chilean police have arrested three nationals wanted by the FBI in connection with a series of burglaries targeting professional athletes in the United States and Argentina during 2024 and 2025.

Authorities said the group is accused of breaking into the homes of several high-profile sports figures and stealing luxury items such as jewelry, expensive watches, cash, and sports memorabilia. Officials believe the suspects carefully selected targets by studying security systems and reviewing athletes’ social media activity.

Police confirmed that two of the suspects were arrested in Argentina after a break-in at the home of former tennis star Juan Martín del Potro. Their arrest helped lead to the capture of a third suspect in Chile over the weekend, according to Interpol officials.

The FBI had earlier issued warnings to sports leagues after a wave of burglaries targeting professional athletes in the United States between late 2024 and early 2025. At least nine athletes were reportedly affected, including well-known players from the NBA, NFL, and NHL.

U.S. authorities have already filed charges against several Chilean nationals in connection with the case and are seeking extradition of those arrested.

Police in Chile did not release the names of the suspects or confirm the identities of all affected athletes, but officials said the investigation is ongoing and further arrests are possible.
