Vatican City: Pope Leo XIV is set to release a historic manifesto on artificial intelligence, his first major policy paper as pope, putting AI ethics at the forefront of the Catholic Church's global agenda. The manifesto, Magnifica Humanitas ("Magnificent Humanity"), focuses on preserving human dignity as artificial intelligence quickly transforms society, work, and conflict.

The manifesto is anticipated to push for stronger AI regulation, cautioning against a concentration of power in major technological corporations, the use of AI in military systems, and the possibility of huge job displacement due to automation. Pope Leo has consistently referred to artificial intelligence as one of the most significant moral issues of the modern period, drawing analogies with the social upheavals of the Industrial Revolution.

The 43,000-word document reportedly calls on governments to make sure that human values, accountability, and the common good continue to be the driving forces behind technological advancement. Along with highlighting the fact that decisions that have an impact on human life should never be left to computers alone, it also exposes issues with misinformation, spying, labour rights, and autonomous weapons.
