Washington DC: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio denied that his recent viral outfit was inspired by Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro after a picture of him wearing a grey Nike tracksuit aboard Air Force One prompted online comparisons.

The photo shared by White House officials, featured Rubio wearing a casual attire that was quite similar to Maduro's when he was apprehended and extradited earlier this year. Social media users began making jokes about ‘cosplay’ and fashion comparisons between the two political personalities as soon as the incident  went viral.

Rubio, however, rejected the story by claiming he was not inspired by Maduro in terms of fashion, emphasising that the choice of attire was unrelated and characterising the similarities as coincidental or overstated.

Since then, memes, modified videos, and discussion over the peculiar optics of the Air Force One appearance have made the incident a more widespread meme moment in political circles.

In short, it's a fashion-politics joke that went viral on the internet, and Rubio is adamantly denying that Maduro had anything to do with his choice of wardrobe.
