Taiwan Says China Is Main Threat to Regional Stability After Trump–Xi Summit Raises Tensions Over Island Issue

Taipei: Taiwan’s government has sharply criticized Beijing, saying China remains the “sole risk” to peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region, following high-level talks between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.
The statement from Taiwan’s foreign ministry came shortly after Xi warned Trump that the Taiwan issue remains the most sensitive point in U.S.-China relations and could lead to serious conflict if not handled carefully.
In response, Taipei pushed back strongly, accusing Beijing of increasing regional tensions through military pressure, “grey-zone” operations, and ongoing political assertions over the island. Taiwan said these actions, not its own policies, are the main source of instability in the region.
Taiwan also rejected China’s claim to speak on its behalf internationally, stating that Beijing has no authority over the island’s democratic government and foreign policy positions.
