Beijing: United States President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing on Tuesday for a high-stakes two-day summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, as the world’s two largest economies prepare for crucial talks on trade, regional security and the escalating Iran crisis.
Trump received a ceremonial welcome upon landing, with a brass band, flag-waving performers and chants of “welcome, welcome” greeting the U.S. delegation as he stepped off Air Force One.
Among those accompanying Trump were billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, Trump’s son Eric Trump, and senior executives from major American companies including Tesla, Apple, NVIDIA and Boeing.
China’s Vice President Han Zheng personally received Trump at the airport—seen by analysts as a notable diplomatic gesture from Beijing.
Trade is expected to dominate the summit agenda, with Washington aiming to narrow its trade deficit with China by boosting exports of American goods, including agricultural products and commercial aircraft. The meetings are also expected to address broader geopolitical issues, including tensions in the Middle East.
