Italian PM slams AI-generated images of herself

ROME: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has issued a sharp warning against the rise of AI-generated deepfakes, labeling them a ‘dangerous tool’ capable of manipulating and harming anyone.
The far-right leader spoke out after a fake image of her in suggestive attire circulated online, deceiving some users into criticising her institutional conduct.
While Meloni noted she has the platform to defend herself, she expressed deep concern for ordinary citizens who lack such resources. ‘Today it's happening to me; tomorrow it could happen to anyone,’ she warned, urging the public to verify content before sharing it.
This is not the first time Meloni has targeted digital abuse; she previously sued individuals for producing deepfake pornography featuring her likeness. In response to such threats, the Italian government has already passed legislation criminalising deepfakes that cause ‘unjust harm’.
