Qatar’s non-hydrocarbon economy now accounts for nearly 70% of GDP, up from 40% in 2011, highlighting the country’s progress in economic diversification. Central Bank Governor Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al-Thani said the sector grew 3.5% year on year in Q1 2026, despite regional challenges.
Construction, wholesale and retail, real estate, and financial services all recorded growth during the period. Qatar’s debt has also declined to around 40% of GDP, from 60%. Meanwhile, the country plans to double LNG production capacity to 145 million tonnes annually by 2030, while expanding investments in technology, artificial intelligence and innovation.
