Indian Tech Professional Leaves High-Paying Google Job in US for “Freedom” in Dubai

Dubai: An Indian technology professional has drawn attention online after leaving a high-paying role in the United States to relocate to Dubai in search of greater personal and financial freedom.

Tanu Puri, who was reportedly earning around $300,000 annually at Google, had been living in Chicago with her husband and young son. Despite having what she described as a comfortable life — including a home, stable job and strong income — she said the family felt something was missing.

In a video shared on Instagram, Puri explained that while they had financial security, they lacked a sense of freedom. She pointed out that even short vacations required approvals, and highlighted concerns around visa restrictions, distance from home, and uncertainty caused by layoffs in the tech sector.

She also noted that differences in investment opportunities and potential returns played a key role in their decision. According to Puri, the move was driven by a desire to build wealth beyond a fixed salary and to pursue what she described as more flexible and rewarding financial prospects.

The family has since relocated to Dubai, joining a growing number of professionals exploring alternatives to traditional career paths abroad.
