New York: FIFA has confirmed that the 2026 World Cup final will feature the tournament’s first-ever halftime entertainment show, with British band Coldplay and frontman Chris Martin set to help curate the event.
The final, scheduled for July 19, 2026, at MetLife Stadium, is expected to include an extended halftime break of around 25 minutes, replacing the traditional 15-minute interval used in previous World Cup finals.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the performance would be the biggest halftime show in the competition’s history, with more than one artist expected to take part.
“We will have the first halftime show in history with the presence of Chris Martin and Coldplay,” Infantino said, adding that additional performers would be announced later.
The move follows FIFA’s trial of a Super Bowl-style entertainment format during the 2025 Club World Cup final, which featured performances from artists including J Balvin, Doja Cat, Tems and Coldplay.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted jointly by the United States, Canada and Mexico, will be the first tournament expanded to 48 teams.
