France and UK Convene Emergency Summit to Reopen Hormuz

The French and British governments will co-host a critical high-level video conference this Friday to address the total paralysis of the Strait of Hormuz. This diplomatic push, led by President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Keir Starmer, follows a 90% collapse in commercial traffic through the waterway due to the ongoing regional war.
The summit aims to establish a ‘purely defensive’ multinational mission, involving over 40 countries, to provide safe passage for merchant vessels. This mission is distinctly separate from the U.S.-led blockade of Iranian ports. With nearly 20% of global oil and 80% of Asia’s supply currently blocked, the goal is to stabilize soaring energy prices and restore a vital artery of global trade.
