Spain Plans to Legalise 500,000 Undocumented Migrants

Madrid: Pedro Sanchez has announced that Spain will approve a new law to legalise around 500,000 undocumented migrants living in the country.
The decision will be approved by the government and aims to give legal status to people who are already living and working in Spain. Sanchez said this move will help better integrate migrants and recognise their contribution to society.
He also explained that migration is important for Spain’s economy, as it helps fill job shortages and supports an ageing population.
Migrants who have been in Spain for at least five months and applied for protection before the end of 2025 can apply. They must also have a clean criminal record. The rule will also apply to their children living in Spain.
Migration Minister Elma Saiz said applications will open soon and run until June 30.
However, opposition parties have criticised the plan, saying it could encourage more illegal immigration.
Spain’s approach is different from many other European countries, which are tightening their immigration policies.
