The European Parliament on Thursday approved a tariff agreement between the European Union and the United States, paving the way for reduced duties on selected American imports.
A majority of lawmakers supported the deal, which was initially negotiated last summer. The agreement includes plans to lower EU tariffs on certain US goods, reflecting efforts to strengthen transatlantic trade ties.
However, the approval comes with conditions, as Members of the European Parliament emphasized the need for additional safeguards to protect European industries and ensure fair competition.
Despite the Parliament’s backing, the agreement is not yet finalized. It must still undergo further negotiations and receive approval from EU member states before it can be fully implemented.
