Manila: The ongoing crisis linked to tensions in Iran is beginning to reshape geopolitical dynamics across Asia, with the Philippines signaling a potential shift in its stance toward China.

Despite longstanding disputes in the South China Sea, Manila is considering closer cooperation with Beijing as energy security concerns grow. The Philippines remains highly vulnerable to disruptions in global oil supplies, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz, due to its heavy reliance on imported fuel.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has expressed openness to resuming talks with China on joint oil and gas exploration in contested waters, describing the current crisis as a potential catalyst for collaboration.

For China, the situation presents an opportunity to position itself as a dependable energy partner in Southeast Asia, while also expanding its regional influence. Both nations appear to have strong incentives to engage, as energy needs and strategic interests converge.
