Britain Condemns Iran’s ‘Reckless Attacks’ on Diego Garcia Air Base

LONDON: The Ministry of Defence today condemned Iran’s ‘reckless attacks’ after its military targeted the joint UK-US air base at Diego Garcia with missiles.
While the strike was unsuccessful, British officials provided no specifics on how close the projectiles came to the Indian Ocean facility, which is located approximately 4,000 kilometres from Iran. The ministry stated that Tehran’s ‘lashing out across the region’ and its ‘holding hostage’ of the Strait of Hormuz represent a threat to British interests and those of its allies.
Although the United Kingdom has not taken part in US-Israeli strikes on Iran, it continues to allow American bombers to operate from British bases to target Iranian missile installations. This cooperation was expanded yesterday to permit US bombers to use facilities, including Diego Garcia, for operations intended to protect shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
