Explosions Over Doha Amid Escalating Iranian Strikes Across Gulf

Doha: Multiple explosions echoed across the Qatari capital Doha on Thursday, just hours after authorities said residents living near the US embassy were being evacuated as a precaution.
Journalists on the ground reported that the blasts were among the most intense heard since Iran began launching drone and missile strikes targeting Gulf states earlier this week. A column of black smoke was seen rising on the horizon over Doha following the explosions.
The developments came amid continued regional tensions after Iran launched waves of drones and missiles across the Gulf in retaliation for a large-scale US-Israeli air campaign.
Qatar’s leadership also voiced strong criticism of Tehran shortly before the blasts were reported. During a phone call with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani accused Iran of attempting to “harm its neighbours and drag them into a war that is not theirs,” according to a statement issued by Qatar’s foreign ministry.
The call marked the first high-level contact between the two countries since the start of the missile and drone campaign.
