15 Million Foreign Residents Protected by Saudi Law

Dr. Hala Al-Tuwaijri, President of the Saudi Human Rights Commission, stated that more than 15 million residents from over 60 countries live and work in Saudi Arabia under a comprehensive legislative, institutional, and judicial framework that safeguards their rights.

Speaking at the high-level segment of the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Dr. Al-Tuwaijri reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to protecting human rights and promoting international cooperation through constructive dialogue and mutual respect.

She congratulated the council’s current president and praised the work of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and his team. Emphasizing Saudi Arabia’s dedication to the council’s objectives, she highlighted the importance of achieving results through joint cooperation.

Dr. Al-Tuwaijri noted that national policies have been implemented to ensure equal opportunities, prevent forced labor, and eliminate child labor. She also highlighted reforms under Vision 2030, including the 2025 update of the Sports Law, which embeds human rights principles such as equality and non-discrimination.

These initiatives have produced tangible outcomes: compliance with occupational safety and health standards rose from 15% to 73%, while work-related deaths dropped by 70%.
