Muharraq to Get National Stadium, New Health Facility
National Stadium for Muharraq
MPs approved a proposal calling for the construction of a national stadium in Muharraq, citing the governorate’s lack of major sports facilities. The initiative, submitted by MPs including Khalid Saleh Buanaq and Hisham Abdulaziz Al Awadhi, highlighted that Muharraq, home to over 120,000 residents, currently lacks a fully equipped venue for national-level events. MP Abdulhakim Al Sheno noted that expanding sports infrastructure is part of broader sectoral development, while the Services Committee recommended approval.
New Health Centre in Busaiteen
Parliament also endorsed a proposal for a new health centre in Busaiteen, driven by population growth and mounting pressure on existing facilities. MP Abdulwahid Abdulaziz Qarata pointed out that many residents currently rely on King Hamad University Hospital for urgent care, often facing six- to eight-hour waiting times. With land near Al Hasan Mosque already allocated, the Services Committee recommended including the project in the upcoming state budget.
Supreme Council for Food Security
Lawmakers approved the establishment of a Supreme Council for Food Security to centralize policy oversight and strengthen coordination among ministries. MPs Hamad Farooq Al Doy and Bader Saleh Al Tamimi emphasized that food security is now a strategic priority, with global disruptions underscoring the need for coordinated planning. The Public Utilities and Environment Committee recommended the proposal for approval.
Parliament’s actions underscore its focus on enhancing national infrastructure, public services, and strategic resilience to meet the evolving needs of residents.
