Saudi Arabia Bans Poultry, Eggs from 40 Countries
The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has announced a total ban on poultry and egg imports from 40 countries, along with partial restrictions targeting specific regions in 16 additional nations.
The move is part of precautionary measures to protect public health and strengthen food safety standards within the local market. The SFDA emphasized that the banned list is regularly reviewed in line with global health developments.
According to the latest update reviewed by Okaz newspaper, some countries have faced bans since 2004, while others were added over time based on risk assessments and international reports of animal diseases. The authority highlighted that the measures are primarily aimed at preventing outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza.
The total ban currently includes countries such as Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Germany, Indonesia, Iran, China, India, Japan, the United Kingdom, South Korea, North Korea, and several others, totaling 40 nations.
The SFDA’s proactive approach underscores its ongoing commitment to monitoring global epidemiological trends and safeguarding public health.
