EU Urges Diplomacy Over Iran
The European Union has called for diplomacy to prevent further escalation with Iran, as tensions rise ahead of expected talks between Tehran and Washington.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas urged all sides to prioritise dialogue, warning that the region cannot afford another conflict.
Speaking ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers, Kallas stressed that the Middle East is already facing multiple crises.
“We don’t need another war in this region. We already have a lot,” she said.
Her comments come as US President Donald Trump has reportedly threatened potential strikes on Iran, increasing concerns of renewed confrontation.
Kallas noted that Iran is currently in a weakened position and said this moment should be used to pursue diplomacy rather than military action.
“It is true that Iran is at its weakest point that they have been. We should be really using this time to find a diplomatic solution,” she added.
The expected discussions between Tehran and Washington are being closely watched by international observers, amid fears that further escalation could destabilise the wider region.
