President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that every power plant in Ukraine has been damaged by Russian attacks, accusing Moscow of deliberately targeting the country’s energy infrastructure to plunge civilians into hardship.
Speaking at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday, Zelensky told international leaders that relentless strikes had left no major power facility untouched.
“There is not a single power plant in Ukraine that is not damaged by Russian strikes,” he said, describing the sustained assaults on critical infrastructure as part of a broader effort to freeze and destabilize the population.
Kyiv and its allies have repeatedly accused Russia of targeting energy sites, especially during the winter months, in an attempt to cut electricity and heating supplies across the country.
Zelensky also stressed the urgent need for faster deliveries of Western air defence systems. He noted that Ukraine sometimes receives new interceptor missiles for its US-made MIM-104 Patriot and Norwegian-American NASAMS systems just before or even at the last moment prior to incoming attacks.
“Sometimes we manage to deliver new missiles for our Patriots or NASAMS just before an attack and sometimes at the very last moment,” he said, urging partners to speed up military assistance to better protect Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.
Ukraine continues to appeal to Western nations for sustained military and financial support as the conflict with Russia grinds on, with energy security remaining one of the country’s most pressing challenges.
