Parliament will take up a proposal on Tuesday calling for the Heritage Village to be reworked into a year-round attraction, with upgraded services, a fuller events calendar and new openings for private investment.
The recommendation, put forward by MP Dr Maryam Al Dhaen, argues that the site should be adapted so it can receive visitors in every season, rather than coming to life mainly during the annual festival held as part of Celebrate Bahrain season.
It calls for work to prepare the infrastructure and keep the village operating throughout the year, alongside programmes that widen the range of activity on site.
Proposal
The proposal points to cultural, educational and arts events designed for different age groups, as well as heritage festivals aimed at presenting Bahrain’s identity and supporting tourism.
It also urges the offering of investment chances to companies and other interested parties, paired with closer work between the public and private sectors to raise service levels and support year-round running.
Among the suggestions is a joint Gulf festival, with exhibitions, craftspeople and stalls selling heritage goods and handmade products linked to shared Gulf culture.
The proposal also points to inviting local and overseas artists to hold workshops and mount exhibitions inspired by Bahraini heritage.
Coordination
It further calls for coordination with the Ministry of Education to run regular school trips, using interactive activities to teach pupils about Bahrain’s history, and for making the site available as a filming location for arts projects and television programmes centred on Gulf heritage.
