Vince Zampella, the veteran video game developer who co-created Call of Duty, has died aged 55 following a car crash in California, according to statements attributed to Electronic Arts. Reports say the Ferrari 296 GTS he was travelling in left a Los Angeles highway, hit a concrete barrier and caught fire, killing both people inside. Authorities said it remains unclear who was driving or what caused the crash.

Zampella was a major force in modern gaming, launching Call of Duty in 2003 and later helping create hit franchises including Medal of Honor, Titanfall and Apex Legends.
