“This Isn’t India”: Protests Break Out in New Zealand Against Sikh Kirtan Parade
Auckland: Over the weekend in Manurewa, South Auckland, protests broke out when a group linked to a local church confronted Sikhs performing kirtan. Videos show protestors chanting Christian slogans, performing a haka, and holding banners saying “This is New Zealand, not India,” while police stepped in to separate the groups, sparking debate on religious freedom and multiculturalism.
Media reports say around 50 protestors blocked Great South Road in the afternoon, trying to disrupt the parade organized by the Nanaksar Sikh Temple. They carried signs reading “This is New Zealand, not India” and wore t-shirts with slogans like ‘Patriots’ and ‘Kiwi First.’
