10,000 Participants Unite for 24th Zayed Charity Run in Abu Dhabi
Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, the 24th edition of the Zayed Charity Run Abu Dhabi took place this morning at Wahat Al Karama and ERTH Abu Dhabi, drawing families, friends, and runners of all abilities to one of the UAE’s most anticipated community sporting events.
More than 10,000 participants joined the run, from young children experiencing their first race to elite athletes, as well as the children of the nation’s martyrs, honoring the memory of their fathers who sacrificed their lives for the country. Delegations from China and Brazil, who have participated in previous editions, added a global dimension to the event and its humanitarian message.
The event celebrated the legacy of the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and supported pioneering medical research at Abu Dhabi Stem Cells Center, reflecting the values of unity, compassion, and community spirit. Sheikh Rashid bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan officially signaled the start of the run, highlighting its roots in giving and humanitarianism.
From the beginning, the atmosphere was electric, with cheers, live performances, drumming, and a sea of colorful event kits creating a festive and emotional experience. Participants of all ages ran 3km, 5km, and 10km distances, many carrying the names of loved ones in their hearts. Families, friends, and teams shared every step, emphasizing kindness, generosity, and togetherness.
Runners passed some of Abu Dhabi’s most iconic landmarks, including the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Zayed Sports City, and Wahat Al Karama, adding symbolism to the event and reinforcing the values of resilience and unity.
Since its inception in 2001, the Zayed Charity Run has welcomed over 613,401 participants worldwide, establishing itself as one of the most impactful and purpose-driven running events globally.
The community village at ERTH Abu Dhabi offered entertainment, food stalls, traditional performances, interactive games, and photo opportunities, creating a vibrant National Day weekend atmosphere. Supporters lined the course, waving UAE flags and cheering for first-time runners, para-athletes, and top finishers alike.
A total prize pool of AED 1.5 million was awarded to winners across all categories, with the crowd applauding outstanding achievements and inspiring personal milestones. The 24th Zayed Charity Run reinforced the power of community coming together for a meaningful cause.
